Pneumonia In Pet Rat Cured With Homeopathy

Homeopathic Arsen Alb and Arnica  to the rescue.

Who says homeopathic remedies are simply placebos?  ‘Nothing in them except water and a bit of alcohol’ say some advocates for the drug copanies’ pharmaceuticals.

Recently, a friend came to me with his pet rat called ‘Monty’.  Monty could barely breathe.  His chest was making an awful rattling sound.  His poor wee mouth struggled to open wide with every breath in an effort to find enough air. He was obviously suffering from a bad dose of pneumonia.

The vet could not see him for a couple of days, by which time we guessed he would be dead unless we could fix the pneumonia.

There was another problem: Poor Monty is getting near the end of his years and he now has what looks to be a   large cyst or cancerous growth underneath his arm-pit.  Considering his age, the vet had previously thought it would not be beneficial to operate.  It was decided to let him live a while longer, without operating, since the cancer did not seem to be bothering him at all.

We wondered if the pneumonia was a result of the cancer getting close to his lungs. Perhaps this time the vet might put Monty down next visit.

Anyhow – I got out the Arsen Alb homeopathic liquid. It probably would not cure the cancer, but quite likely  it would fix the pneumonia.

Arsen Alb is a fantastic remedy for preventing and curing flu in people, or animals, especially when there is a cough with it. Often it will fix a cough that lasts long after a person has had the flu.  It is a marvellous remedy for all kinds of coughs and, like Aconite, is a good remedy to start with if you are unsure about what remedy to use.

So Monty was about to have his very first dose of homeopathy.  I reckon he was lucky I had Arsen Alb on hand.

Since I had run out of the straight homeopathic Arsen Alb, I used a combination which has Cantharis and Antimon Crud added to it. I felt that the Arsen Alb remedy would do its work regardless of the added remedies. As it happened, the Cantharis was useful for treating Monty’s bladder, which was showing signs of weakening under the stress of the pneumonia.

That evening, I gave him several drops of the Arsen Alb combination in one dose, sprinkling the remedy around his mouth and nose. Around an hour later, I repeated the dose.

With the second dose of Arsen Alb I also gave Monty some Arnica/Symphytum drops.  Just a couple or three drops, again smeared around his mouth and nose.

The Arnica/Symphytum was given mainly to alleviate his stress, although these remedies are often useful also in treating congestion of the lungs.

By morning, Monty was very much improved. Nearly better.  The rattling had gone from his chest, and he was not gaping his mouth wide to breathe as he had been doing the night before. He was eating and drinking again, which is always a healthy sign with a sick person or animal.  My friend was very very happy to see Monty’s improvement, and grateful for the treatment I had given.

We gave him another dose of Arsen Alb.  Then a few hours later, just the Arnica remedy.  Then, at night time, some more Arsen Alb, followed by a sprinkling of Arnica again.

The next morning, the day which Monty was booked into the vet’s, he was almost completely recovered.

He was mobile again, and was looking extremely  alert and pretty pleased with himself. My  friend decided to keep the appointment with the vet anyway, and took him along  for a check-up.

Guess what?  The vet promptly gave Monty an antibiotic, ‘just in case’, charged my friend $40, and sent them both home after about 10 minutes’ consultation.

I told my friend, who had never used a homeopathic remedy before,  that the antibiotic would not have been necessary, as homeopathy had been effective in curing Monty’s pneumonia.

If the correct homeopathic remedy, or remedies, are used, then recovery from infection can be expected within a short time.

The main thing is that one way or another, Monty recovered from the pneumonia. And all due to our homeopathic first aid, in the absence of a ready antibiotic.

He is tearing around the house now, playing with his replacement rat, who is a couple of years younger, happy as a sand-boy for the mean-time.

My new book is out on Amazon.  Price is $4.93.

Breathing Method To Help Reduce High Blood Pressure

The Yoga Cooling Breath – Sheetali Pranayama

DSCO 1544

Yoga Technique To Enhance Vitality, Induce Mental Calmness And Normalize Blood Pressure

Sheetali Pranayama is an age-old practice which is included in the teachings of Satyananda.

Sheetali Pranayama will noticeably reduce high blood pressure even after one or two practices of the method.  Over time, if you practice it regularly on a daily basis, you will find that your general health will improve, and that your blood pressure will also improve. Of course, attention to the diet and minimizing any activities which cause your blood pressure to rise are also important in achieving a balanced state.

Basically, this is a very easy exercise to perform.  There are some added sophisticated yoga techniques which  you could add to the exercise if you wish to take your yoga practice seriously.

But here I will give the simple, basic method which is effective in calming the mind and in helping to reduce blood pressure, and which anyone can do easily without any prior knowledge of yoga technique.

First, make yourself comfortable, either in a chair, or in your favourite meditation pose.

Take two or three slow deep breaths to clear your lungs of air and prepare for the Sheetali pranayama cooling breath.

How To Perform The Sheetali pranayama Cooling Breath:

So now you are seated comfortably. Stick out the tongue a little, and make it into a tube shape.  You are going to breathe in through this tube made by the folds of the tongue. Note: This is the only one of Satyananda’s yoga breathing techniques whereby the breath is taken inward through the mouth, and outward through the nose. It is the reverse of the usual method.

So – With the eyes closed, we take the breath in through the curl of the tongue, slowly and evenly. Hold the breath in briefly with the mouth closed.  Then exhale evenly out through the nose.

Repeat.

Be Cautious – Build Up Slowly:

In the beginning, if your blood pressure is high, it might be best to perform only about three or four breaths using this curled tongue technique. Otherwise if you do too many at once,  you might feel awfully light-headed or dizzy as the sudden burst of oxygen into the blood stream takes effect.

As your strength improves with building up your Prana, or nervous energy, you should be able to perform more breaths in the one sitting.  In conjunction with regular pranayama practice, nine rounds is suggested by Satyananda.

For people suffering high blood pressure, Satyananda recommends building up the practice slowly for anything up to 60 rounds.

Many Benefits:

I find that the Sheetali pranayama Cooling Breath has many benefits.  As well as the obvious effects in calming the mind and normalizing the blood pressure, it also oxygenates the blood, helps the eyesight, enhances the intuitive faculties, improves memory, and helps to improve the digestion.  You will notice right away that saliva secretions increase as you perform the exercise.  Stimulating the saliva glands in this way greatly helps the digestion.  After a few days of practicing the Cooling Breath, you will become aware of other more subtle changes occuring throughout the system.

It can be a helpful technique for people suffering all kinds of degenerative disease, such as cancer and arthritis.

Merrilyn’s new book is out on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.ca/Cancer-And-Good-Health-Notebook-ebook/dp/B01DHMH6DG

Remember To Drink Plenty Of Water Daily:  This helps keep the blood pressure stable.  Take a glass of water immediately after performing the Sheetali pranayama cooling breath exercise.

Jalandhara bandha – The Chin Lock. If you wish, you could perform the Jalandhara bandha  as you practice the Sheetali pranayama Cooling Breath.

You need to sit in a meditation pose for this, knees touching the floor if possible, and with the arms straightened out, hands holding the knees. Hunch up the shoulders so that the arms can become perfectly straight.

Close the eyes. You then inhale through the curled tongue, then, close the mouth whilst holding in the breath, and push the head forward so that the chin touches the chest.

Hold this position, with the breath retained inward, for as long as is comfortable.  Then, still retaining the breath inside, slowly relax the pose, bringing the head up.  Exhale slowly through the nose as you sit with the head erect.

Repeat.

It is important to remember that the head must be properly erect before breathing in or out.  No breathing should be done whilst the head is down on the chest in the chin-lock.

Personally, I think that the chin-lock is a bit much for most people who are simply wanting to improve their blood pressure. It is not really necessary in order to achieve results.

But there we have it!!!!!!

Homeopathy Awareness Week In NZ Not Given A Fair Go

Discussion on Radio NZ Unfair to Homeopathy

This is Homeopathy Awareness Week, recognized world-wide, from 10th to 16th April, 2014.   Interesting that Homeopathy Awareness Week has almost co-incided with the findings of the British Medical Association, who reported in the British Medical Journal recently that there is no proof that standard pharmaceutical flu injections work.

DSCO 1670

Great – at last!!!!  All anti-flu jabs and tablets should be banned in my opinion.  Homeopathy and Vitamins C  and A are better, safer alternatives.

I know many people who have been made ill by having a flu injection. I have written quite a bit on the potential dangers to health from having flu jabs or other vaccinations. One lady I know ended up in intensive care, such were her reactions to a dose of ‘Tamiflu’. It has taken her several years to recover from what appeared to be extreme allergies, asthma, and near nervous collapse, all of which transpired after her dose of ‘Tamiflu’.

But our NZ medical people, who have stock-piled masses of this useless and sometimes even downright dangerous drug, are insisting that the British study is ‘incomplete’.  They intend to go right on using it.  Because they have already spent a fortune buying in their stock-pile, they want to palm it off onto the public somehow.  Those drug companies must still be laughing their heads off.

Since it is World Homeopathy Awareness Week, one would expect that homeopaths might have been given the opportunity on radio (and TV, which I have not watched for ages) to describe how homeopathy works, to discuss what common ailments might respond to homeopathic treatment, and what homeopathic remedies you might consider using for those ailments.

But not so, apparently.  Homeopathy is under what I believe to be a co-ordinated attack by all those who protect the interests of pharmaceutical drugs, and if you look online under ‘Homeopathy Awareness Week’, you will see that my assertion seems to be correct:  Most of the listings favour those against homeopathy.

Today, the last day of ‘Homeopathic Awareness Week’, I heard, just before the news at 12 noon on Radio NZ, a damning account of homeopathy.  The reporter said, in unequivocal terms, that Homeopathy Awareness Week’s purpose was to show people why homeopathy should not be used or trusted.

She is wrong. This is NOT the intended message of ‘Homeopathic Awareness Week.

Homeopathy Awareness Week In NZ has not been given A Fair Go on our New Zealand National Radio station:  Attack is the best means of defense, they say.  I believe the medical authorities, backed by the drug companies, are behind the attack on homeopathy which I heard on radio today. The attacker, a science reporter, was astoundingly ignorant and misinformed about almost everything to do with homeopathy.

Either ignorant, or perhaps this reporter is being paid to say the damning and untruthful things she said.  The only thing about homeopathy which she appeared to know a little about, was that the remedies were ‘shaken’, she said.  Well, the word is ‘succussed’, dear reporter.  She also made the incredible allegation that homeopaths often did their ‘shaking’  (succussing) of their remedies over a Bible.

This unfounded belief of hers about some practitioners using a Bible to make their remedies, is a blatant lie, probably prompted by drug company interests, to make homeopaths look totally ridiculous.  The reporter uses this absurb Bible-bashing idea deliberately to give weight to  her statement that homeopathy is just a ‘magic medicine’, no better than a placebo, she said.

Well, homeopathic medicine, properly prescribed, is NOT a placebo, it is NOT MAGIC,  and it has nothing to do with the Bible.

The Royal Family have used homeopathy for decades.  They have been a long-lived lot.  The Queen has her own personal homeopathic doctor.  I would have hoped for more Royal stories about homeopathy during ‘Homeopathy Awareness Week’, especially with the Royals, Prince William, and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, only leaving our New Zealand shores today.

Now, what about there being a potential cure for ebola in the form of a homeopathic remedy?  I have written myself about the possiblity of homeopathic remedies being used for a range of diseases which so far do not have any cures.  Homeopathic remedies, as well as megadoses of Vitamin C, and Vitamin A, should be taken seriously by the scientists who are say they are looking for cures. Trouble is, these remedies are not on the agendas of most drug companies’ research items.

Anyway, this science reporter took up the issue of ebola – somewhere she had read that homeopathy could be a potential cure.  This was her response:

‘Homeopathy is just water.  There is nothing in it.  You cannot cure ebola with water’, she said. Personally, I have never cured a case of ebola, but I am quite prepared to believe that the right homeopathic remedy could work, since homeopathic medicine has worked for me and my family for flu, and a whole range of other ailments and childhood illnesses.  Homeopathic remedies can even be used, more safely, I believe, as an alternative to vaccinations of many kinds.

If this reporter would only visit me or any other person with a small amount of homeopathic knowledge, we could help her avoid the flu with so-called homeopathic water.  But we would have to use the right remedy.  I would use homeopathic Arsen alb.  There are some other good ones which you could use, but I find homeopathic Arsen alb particularly good as a prophylactic for flu viruses.

Homeopathy is NOT a placebo, as this reporter said.  Any old remedy will not do.  The right remedy can reverse the beginnings of a flu, scarlet fever, and help many childhood illnesses.  But the right remedy has to be used if you want to alleviate the symptoms, or reverse the condition. Conversely, I could make this reporter feel a little sick for a while by giving her a remedy which was entirely inappropriate.  So much for the placebo effect of her so-called magical ‘water’ remedies.

The reporter obviously has NOT done her homework into the history of homeopathy.  She declined to tell us that homeopathy practitioners were silenced about their findings way back in the 1920’s, when the pharmaceutical companies banded together to oust homeopathic science.  They formed the nucleus of what is now the  mighty and powerful American FDA – Federal Drug Administration.

Homeopathic doctors, no matter how well qualified in the medical profession, were not allowed to publish their findings on homeopathic medicine after around 1925.  This is why we have little evidence of homeopathy successes in the public domain today.

Homeopathy was silenced a long time ago by the powers that be.  It looks as if those powers that be are still afraid to let homeopathy into the public arena for fear that it might prove to be safer and more effective, and cheaper too, than their pharmaceutical medicines.

Homeopathic Remedy Arsen Alb For Flu Allergies Asthma

Natural Remedies That Really Work:

Arsen Alb is one of the more commonly used Homeopathic Remedies.   It is considered by many homeopaths to be a prophylactic and a great remedy for general colds and flu. This makes it an ideal remedy to have on hand if you have decided to forfeit those much-promoted and often dubious flu injections.

IMG_6828Pic of a bonny Mother and Child who have never had vaccinations of any kind:  Read Merrilyn’s post entitled:  ‘Health Without Vaccinations or AntiBiotics’.

Kent’s ‘Materia Medica’, a widely studied text-book on homeopathy, indicates Arsen alb for some forms of Asthma.

Physical symptoms indicating Arsen alb:  The patient characteristically feels chilled and needs warmth, except for the head, which is often burning.  The skin is cold and damp to the touch. Sweaty, cold and clammy.  There is often a severe headache when Arsen alb is needed.  ‘Irritable, restless and discouraged’ best describes the Arsen alb patient.

The Arsen alb patient is thirsty but cannot drink much at a time.  There is an ongoing thirst for frequent small sips of drink.

Mental symptoms indicating Arsen alb might include:  Feelings of extreme sadness, depression, wanting to die, mental anguish and anxiety.  Wanting to avoid people because of a fear you have offended them in some way goes with Arsen alb.  Ongoing sadness is one of the  classic symptoms of the Arsen alb patient.

Homeopathic Aconite is another good remedy for when the symptoms come on after getting damp or chilled.  But Arsen alb is another useful remedy to remember in cases of damp and chill.

DSCO 1538

I recently had a bad flu which got better with the use of Arsen alb.  This is all I used to treat this intensely debilitating form of flu.  I put up a post a few days ago on just how effective the Arsen alb was for treating this virus.  Within two weeks I was almost recovered, except for a trace of a cough.

Then I went to Auckland for a job interview, and to hang out with friends.  Unfortunately, on my way to my job interview, I got damp walking in the rain.

Getting wet in drissly rain just about always brings on a chill or a cough or cold of some sort, unless I can treat it right away with heat, hot showers, dry clothes, and the help of homeopathic remedies such as Aconite or Arsen alb.

Next thing, without my homeopathics and home comforts, I had severe bronchitis.  I had left my Arsen alb remedy at home, so I had to endure the cough until I returned home five days later, when I again began the Arsen alb treatment. As beforehand, I took four or five doses or more of the remedy during the day, five drops at a time for each dose.  I had a piano committment the following day which involved walking a distance in cold air, so the cough did not have a chance to improve on that day.  But on the second day of taking Arsen alb, with the whole day at-home, resting and keeping warm, the bronchitis has gone again.

Diesel fumes and other pollution in Auckland also seemed to excacerbate my cough, which had arisen as an aftermath flu and getting wet.  Each time I went out in my friend’s car, especially along busy, congested roads such as the motorway, I suffered an asthma-like difficulty in breathing.  I really don’t think I can live back in the city anymore.  The clean country air of Morrinsville really suits me, and I have had no chest problems, except for this bout of flu, since I came here eight months ago.

Arsen alb works very well for me to treat irritation of the lungs which arises from allergies.  I think it is a remedy well worth considering for people who get asthma, especially if they suffer from allergies of various kinds.

I must mention that I DID consume quite a lot of hot lemon drinks over this recovery period.  The lemon juice action works very well with Arsen alb, I think.  Remember not to use coffee, or very little of it, if you are using Homeopathic remedies to cure infections of any sort.  Coffee negates the action of most homeopathic remedies.  So – Wait to get well before you begin drinking coffee again.

List Of Homeopathic Remedies For Ear Ache

 Alternative Medicines For Ear Ache

DSCO 1795Photo  by Merrilyn

First of all – A reminder to see your doctor or another health professional if your child or yourself has ear-ache. It is important to get professional advice, in case there is a serious infection, such as meningitis.  Also, if the ear-drum is about to burst, then antibiotics might be the best thing to give, to quickly avert the danger of the drum bursting.  While an experienced homeopath can deal with these situations as well as any doctor practicing orthodox medicine, it is not a good idea to self-prescribe your own medicines under these circumstances.  So – do see your doctor or professional homeopath for any sudden illnesses.

No harm in trying a homeopathic remedy for ear-ache while you are on the way to the doctor, though.  Many cases of ear-ache in my own family have been cured by taking homeopathic medicine before the doctor can be seen.  I have personally found Levisticum homeopathic drops to be very effective in helping the pain of a middle ear infection or blockage.  This remedy worked so well for me whenever I had ear-ache, that there was no need to take an oral homeopathic medicine.  At the time, I was very sensitive to formaldehyde, which, when I was exposed to it in paints or particle building board,  caused fluid to build up in the inner ear.  Some insecticides and herbicides also did the same thing.

For the treatment of simple ear-ache, there are many Homeopathic remedies to choose from.   You might like to read Merrilyn’s other post entitled:  Ear Ache Remedies.

Here is a general run-down of the main Homeopathic remedies, with some of the matching symptoms for each remedy.  My main sources of information, apart from my own experience,  are Dr W.A Dewey’s book, ‘Practical Homeopathic Therapeutics’, the reprint edition of 1996, published by B. Jain Publishers Pvt. Ltd., 1921. Street No 10, Chuna Mandi, Pahargang, New Delhi – 110 055 (INDIA), and the marvellous little book by Dr John H. Clarke, M.D., ‘The Prescriber – How To Practise Homeopathy’, reprint edition published 1991, also by B. Jain Publishers in India.

Another useful book is ‘A Doctor’s Guide to Helping Yourself with Homeopathic Remedies’, which is by Dr James H. Stephenson, M.D. Parker Publishing Company, Inc., New York, 1976.  Dr Stephenson advises the following homeopathic remedies:

Veratrum alb – if the ears are cold and aching

Arnica or Dulcimara – if there is swelling in the glands below or in front of the ear, or both

Sepia – if the ears hurt in a cold wind

Urt-V – if the ear passage has shut because of swelling

Digitalis – if the veins are swollen

Dr Stephenson does not mention Chamomilla or Aconite, but either of these is often a good stand-by for sudden ear ache in babies and young children.  Chamomilla is great if the cause is teething, and Aconite works well to alleviate sudden problems, such as ear ache which started from getting chilled in the wind.  Belladonna can often fix an ear-ache, too.  Belladonna has the characteristic of flushed cheeks and a temperature – different to the classic symptoms of Aconite, which usually includes getting chilled or wet.

Dr Dewey includes the remedies Aconite, Belladonna and Chamomilla in his list for ear-ache remedies.

However, his favourite remedies for ear-ache would seem to be:

Belladonna- for violent, sudden pain – in acute otitis media – the stabbing pain is more violent than those which go with homeopathic Pulsatilla –  with Belladonna, the trouble worsens at night and the patient is better for warmth.

Capsicum – another remedy to use in otitis media – the mastoid process is affected and painful – Capsicum can be effective remedy for treating chronic suppuration of the ear with yellow coloured discharge – may be accompanied by headache and chilliness – patient usually has hot ears with pain stretching up to the throat – the eardrum may be perforated.  Dr Stephenson refers to Dr Weaver’s experience, who has successfully treated people with Capsicum, who otherwise were destined for a mastoid operation.  The homeopathic Capsicum remedied the problem so effectively in many cases, that an operation was not needed.

Causticum – good for fluid in the Eustachian tube – noises in the ear, and sounds echo in the ear  (Note:  Do remember those homeopathic Levisticum drops which are also helpful for these symptoms)

Chamomilla

Hepar sulph – another remedy for otitis media – there is great sensitivity to touch and to drafts – patient is often irritable – good to use before discharge has begun – but can be used when the ear is discharging – usually slightly smelly

Mercurius – breath often smells unpleasant with Mercurius – useful for middle ear infections – roaring sounds in ears – paritod glands, tonsils, may be swollen –  face, ears and teeth may ache – Dr Stephenson recommends it for ‘scrofulous and syphilitic’ ear problems.

Pulsatilla

Silicea – often good fo9r middle ear infections – a common characteristic of this remedy is an itching and irritation of the middle ear around the Eustachian tube.  Silicea can help to promote healing of the ear-drum if the drum has already burst.  With Silicea there is often a hypersensitivity to sound.  Dr Dewey refers to Dr Moffat’s advice to switch to Lupis albus if Silicea has been used over a period of time.

Sulphur – the homeopath’s most common antibiotic and cleanser – Sulphur helps to cleanse the intestines and helps purify the blood.  Dr Dewey recommends Sulphur when other remedies might have failed.
