Nicotinoid Insecticides Kill Bees And Harm Humans

I have just had an important email from the Avaaz people, on the 15th March 2013. I urge you to go to their home page to join the protest against the use of nicotinoid insecticides which have been proven to be deadly to bees.

Bee Colony Collapse Disorder is a very real threat to our civilization. All over the world, whole beehives are being hit by a mysterious virus which kills the whole hive, and this virus has been related specifically to the nicotinoid range of insecticides.

The answer to this problem of dying bees, and one which will help address the rise in cancers, arthritis, and other degenerative disease, is to ban toxic insecticides and herbicides. Plant more flowers to feed the bees, such as the daisies pictured above, and chamomile daisies in your lawn, and avoid all the use of poisonous insecticides and herbicides.

List Of Homeopathic Remedies For Ear Ache

First of all – A reminder to see your doctor or another health professional if your child or yourself has ear-ache. It is important to get professional advice, in case there is a serious infection, such as meningitis. Also, if the ear-drum is about to burst, then antibiotics might be the best thing to give, to quickly avert the danger of the drum bursting. While an experienced homeopath can deal with these situations as well as any doctor practicing orthodox medicine, it is not a good idea to self-prescribe your own medicines under these circumstances. So – do see your doctor or professional homeopath for any sudden illnesses.

No harm in trying a homeopathic remedy for ear-ache while you are on the way to the doctor, though. Many cases of ear-ache in my own family have been cured by taking homeopathic medicine before the doctor can be seen. I have personally found Levisticum homeopathic drops to be very effective in helping the pain of a middle ear infection or blockage. This remedy worked so well for me whenever I had ear-ache, that there was no need to take an oral homeopathic medicine. At the time, I was very sensitive to formaldehyde, which, when I was exposed to it in paints or particle building board, caused fluid to build up in the inner ear. Some insecticides and herbicides also did the same thing.

For the treatment of simple ear-ache, there are many Homeopathic remedies to choose from. You might like to read Merrilyn’s other post entitled: Ear Ache Remedies.

Here is a general run-down of the main Homeopathic remedies, with some of the matching symptoms for each remedy. My main sources of information, apart from my own experience, are Dr W.A Dewey’s book, ‘Practical Homeopathic Therapeutics’, the reprint edition of 1996, published by B. Jain Publishers Pvt. Ltd., 1921. Street No 10, Chuna Mandi, Pahargang, New Delhi – 110 055 (INDIA), and the marvellous little book by Dr John H. Clarke, M.D., ‘The Prescriber – How To Practise Homeopathy’, reprint edition published 1991, also by B. Jain Publishers in India.

Another useful book is ‘A Doctor’s Guide to Helping Yourself with Homeopathic Remedies’, which is by Dr James H. Stephenson, M.D. Parker Publishing Company, Inc., New York, 1976. Dr Stephenson advises the following homeopathic remedies:

Veratrum alb – if the ears are cold and aching

Arnica or Dulcimara – if there is swelling in the glands below or in front of the ear, or both

Sepia – if the ears hurt in a cold wind

Urt-V – if the ear passage has shut because of swelling

Digitalis – if the veins are swollen

Dr Stephenson does not mention Chamomilla or Aconite, but either of these is often a good stand-by for sudden ear ache in babies and young children. Chamomilla is great if the cause is teething, and Aconite works well to alleviate sudden problems, such as ear ache which started from getting chilled in the wind. Belladonna can often fix an ear-ache, too. Belladonna has the characteristic of flushed cheeks and a temperature – different to the classic symptoms of Aconite, which usually includes getting chilled or wet.

Dr Dewey includes the remedies Aconite, Belladonna and Chamomilla in his list for ear-ache remedies.

However, his favourite remedies for ear-ache would seem to be:

Belladonna- for violent, sudden pain – in acute otitis media – the stabbing pain is more violent than those which go with homeopathic Pulsatilla – with Belladonna, the trouble worsens at night and the patient is better for warmth.

Capsicum – another remedy to use in otitis media – the mastoid process is affected and painful – Capsicum can be effective remedy for treating chronic suppuration of the ear with yellow coloured discharge – may be accompanied by headache and chilliness – patient usually has hot ears with pain stretching up to the throat – the eardrum may be perforated. Dr Stephenson refers to Dr Weaver’s experience, who has successfully treated people with Capsicum, who otherwise were destined for a mastoid operation. The homeopathic Capsicum remedied the problem so effectively in many cases, that an operation was not needed.

Causticum – good for fluid in the Eustachian tube – noises in the ear, and sounds echo in the ear (Note: Do remember those homeopathic Levisticum drops which are also helpful for these symptoms)

Chamomilla

Hepar sulph – another remedy for otitis media – there is great sensitivity to touch and to drafts – patient is often irritable – good to use before discharge has begun – but can be used when the ear is discharging – usually slightly smelly

Mercurius – breath often smells unpleasant with Mercurius – useful for middle ear infections – roaring sounds in ears – paritod glands, tonsils, may be swollen – face, ears and teeth may ache – Dr Stephenson recommends it for ‘scrofulous and syphilitic’ ear problems.

Pulsatilla

Silicea – often good fo9r middle ear infections – a common characteristic of this remedy is an itching and irritation of the middle ear around the Eustachian tube. Silicea can help to promote healing of the ear-drum if the drum has already burst. With Silicea there is often a hypersensitivity to sound. Dr Dewey refers to Dr Moffat’s advice to switch to Lupis albus if Silicea has been used over a period of time.

Sulphur – the homeopath’s most common antibiotic and cleanser – Sulphur helps to cleanse the intestines and helps purify the blood. Dr Dewey recommends Sulphur when other remedies might have failed.

Gluten Free Protein Rich Dumplings For Soup

Gluten Free Recipe Using Chick Pea Flour:

How To Make Wheat-Free Dumplings.

These are really delicious things: Great for celiacs or other people following wheat free or gluten free diets. The chick pea flour dumplings will give richness and flavour to your winter soups, and provide good protein as well.

They come out well when they are cooked in a vegetable soup which has plenty of clear liquid in it.

These gluten free dumplings are a great protein resource for vegetarians. Of course, you can add a little gravy beef or fish if you wish.

Take one regular cup of chick pea flour, also called besan flour. Put into a clean dry bowl.

Add one free range egg, preferably organic.

Add half a teaspoon of sea salt and two teaspoons of baking powder.

Add enough water to mix – around half a cup or a little more.

If you like, you can add some spices to the dumpling mixture. A little turmeric for colouring, or some chopped fresh chilli, or some chopped fresh coriander, are some additions which you can use to excite the taste buds.

Get your wooden spoon and stir the mixture well, grinding out any lumps of pea flour as you go.

The mixture should resemble a stiffish batter – just thin enough so that you can drop balls of batter into your boiling soup. Be careful not to add too much water in the mixing of it, as it will not hold together if it is too runny.

Get your soup up to simmering point, but not boiling heavily. It should be simmering away gently when you add your dumplings to it.

Use all the mixture up, dropping balls of dough into the soup. Cook for 10 minutes on one side, then turn the dumplings over for 5 minutes or so.

Serve the soup with the dumplings.

You can experiment with using the same recipe above, but fried in olive oil instead of being boiled as dumplings.

You can make the batter slightly more runny, and put slices of zucchini, or aubergine, or slices of onion with it. Take a piece of your chosen vegetable, surrounded with a spoonful of the pea flour batter,and pop it into the hot oil. Fry until brown. Turn over and cook on the other side.

Eat while hot.

Delicious.

HIV Baby Possibly ‘Cured’ In America

Is This A Cure For AIDS Or An Act Of God? A Dubious Question.

BBC have just given us this story of hope: A child who is now two and a half, has been free of the AIDS virus for over a year. This news item has just come over our BBC news through the night, 3AM 5th March 2013.

The story goes: In July, 2012, a mother from Mississippi gave birth to a baby girl. However, it was just discovered at this time that the woman had the HIV virus. Because of the late diagnosis, she had not been taking any medication to alleviate the disease. So it was feared that her baby might also have had the AIDS virus. As a desperate remedial measure, the baby was given a megadose of antibiotics for three different illnesses within hours of her birth.

It is possible that a ‘functional’ cure may have been affected. The key factor in the treatment is that a cocktail of strong antibiotics were given immediately after the child was born, and these could be effective in keeping the virus at bay.

The mother took the child home. After a year, she stopped giving her child any medication. When she took the child back for examination a year after this, when the child was two and a half, there was no trace of the AIDS virus.

However, spontaneous recovery of AIDS has been known to happen before. It may not be the aggressive antibiotics which caused a so-called cure.

The other point to keep in mind is that it is not known whether or not the baby girl really did have HIV. According to the BBC science reporter, it is difficult to ascertain for sure whether or not a new-born child has got the virus.

One point which was not considered at all on the BBC News item was this: If the child really did have the AIDS virus, then spontaneous recovery could have occurred, not just because ot the antibiotics, but through specific foods the woman gave her baby in that first year, or through vitamins, or homeopathy, or some other unknown environmental factor.

There are other things in the world which cure disease, apart from antibiotics. Vitamin and Mineral therapy should always be considered. Herbal Medicine and Homeopathy are other avenues to explore in the treatment of HIV and the AIDS virus.

However, how wonderful it would be if this cocktail of antibiotics do in fact cure HIV in new-born babies.

Homeopathic Remedy To Reduce Craving For Tobacco

Giving Up Smoking can be made easier with the help of Homeopathic Caladium.

Dr Shepherd, a world-famous homeopath, recommends Homeopathic Caladium for getting rid of the craving for tobacco.

Chronic Tobacco Poisoning: She has used Homeopathic Caladium as a remedy to antidote chronic tobacco poisoning. When people have been heavy smokers, even when they have given up smoking, they often still suffer afflictions which were brought on initially by the tobacco habit.

In much the same way as you might antidote the long-term or short-term effects of vaccination by giving Homeopathic Thuja, you would try Homeopathic Caladium if symptoms of ill-health were brought on when the smoking habit had begun.

Bad Effects of Heavy Smoking: I found that smoking heavily caused a swelling of the legs, the skin colour changing to a pinkish-purplish colour, and eczema appearing on the legs. Blood pressure was affected, and veins began to show on the legs. Smoking can create a favourable environment for the herpes zoster virus, which is a form of the chicken pox virus known as shingles, to take hold in the body. Smoking will cause your breathing to suffer, and you won’t be able to tackle even those little hills without your breathing becoming laboured.

Homeopathic Caladium can be useful in correcting these problems if the symptoms began with smoking.

Case Of Chronic Tobacco Poisoning

Sequence Of Remedies Used For Patient With Smoking History:

Here is the sequence of remedies which Dr Shepherd used to treat a woman, a heavy smoker, who had a Meibomian cyst on her eye. The woman had come to the doctor for the treatment of the cyst, since she did not want it operated on:

Since there was a history of tuberculosis in the family, the first remedy chosen was Tuberculinum 30 to be given weekly. At this stage, the woman had not told the doctor that she was a smoker. She had a coughs and colds quite often, and so different remedies were given for this as well as the Tuberculinum. Repeated doses of Pulsatilla were prescribed for one feverish coughing attack, and Bryonia was later given for a persistent dry cough which was accompanied by excessive thirst and pain behind the sternum.

Homeopathic Bryonia 30 was given thrice daily for this second attack. But it did not completely stop the cough. At this stage, the doctor discovered that the woman was a heavy smoker. (Don’t know how the woman managed to disguise the smell of tobacco, but there we have it!)

So Dr Shepherd prescribed Homeopathic Caladium, which is a South American lily from the Arum family. The dose was Caladium 6 to be taken morning and night. The Caladium fitted in with the other symptoms displayed by the woman – she was thin, busy, nervous and edgy, and forgetful, finding it difficult to remember where she had put things.

Two weeks later, after treatment with Caladium began, the woman reported that the desire for smoking was reduced dramatically, and that she did not like the taste of tobacco anymore. She had cut down from 40-50 per day, to only 3 or 4 per day.

After six months or so of treatment, the cysts went away. The doctor was hopeful that with continued treatment, the nervous symptoms would also disappear in time.
