NZ Flax Herbal Recipe For Constipation And Cleansing

Natural Remedies

New Zealand Flax:  Phormium Tenax

Note:  NZ Flax is totally different and not related to the type of flax which linseed comes from.

I have just begun studying an old herbal from 1889, ‘The New Zealand Herb Doctor – A Book On The Botanic Eclectic System Of Medicine’, by James F. Neil, MD, USA.

‘It is no use denying the existence of the form of folly which despises things because they are cheap and easily got.’  Thus spake James F. Neil, MD., USA., on page 71 of his book, ‘The New Zealand Herb Doctor’.

James Neil was a graduate of the Eclectic College of Medicine and Surgery, Chicago, and also the Polyclinic Post Graduate College of New York.

James Neil’s powerfully informative book on herbal remedies was first published in Dunedin, NZ,  by Mills, Dick & Co., Printers And Lithographers, The Octagon.

The copy I have is one of 1000, reprinted in 1980 in Christchurch, NZ, by Capper Press.

New Zealand Flax: Phormium Tenax

James Neil writes in 1889 that flax ‘is becoming a valuable article of commerce, and is not now likely to be cut down and destroyed, as it was at one time.’

Over 120 years later, we can safely say that his prediction was true.  There has been a renaissance in Maori weaving, which makes predominant use of flax.  This renaissance of Maori weaving is mostly due to Rangimarie Puketapu-Hetet, who devoted much of her life to teaching and promoting the art of Maori weaving.

And so today, flax is nurtured in many groves of natural plantings around the country.

I have three flax plants in my own garden, which I keep to feed the birds, and for medicinal use.

I also like the idea of keeping flax growing, in the event where natural fibre clothing cannot be bought, that I can spin my own fibre. I  keep a spinning wheel, just in case.

The New Zealand native Tui bird is particularly fond of the nectar contained in the attractive, drooping fronds of rich yellow blossoms, and then, when the blossoms have all gone to seed, there remains a wealth of protein-rich seed for birds of many types to feed on.

If you love birds, then plant some New Zealand flax.

On page 58 of my copy of ‘The New Zealand Family Herb Doctor’ is the section on how to use flax root as a Cathartic, Aperient, Laxative medicine.

How To Make A Mild Laxative Using NZ Flax Root

James Neil’s method of using NZ flax root to make a laxative is more or less as follows:

Select your roots and wash them well.  Chop them finely and cover with water. Simmer for half an hour.

Strain when cold and sweeten if necessary.

Put into a clean dry bottle and store in the refridgerator.

Dose:  One tablespoonful to be taken once or up to three times a day as needed.

Note:  As with all constipation remedies, this herbal remedy should not be used for long periods at a time.  I would not use the remedy for longer than three days, after which, if constipation was still a problem, three days of eating only raw, grated apples should be done.  The raw apple diet is one of the best cleansing, tonic remedies to use, and it is very effective for curing constipation.

James Neil also recommends this same decoction for relief of chilblains.  Use to bathe the unbroken chilblains while the mixture is still warm.

Apple Tree Bark Remedy For Gall Stones Kidneys and Fever

Natural Remedies

Apples are a wonderful cleansing food.  Three days on the raw apple diet is an easy method to rid the body of toxins and freshen up the blood. Drinking apple juice at meal-times can remove acidity and be a help to digestion.  But what about Apple Tree Bark as a medicine?

Jethro Kloss, the famous Seventh Day Adventist herbalist who wrote ‘Back To Eden’ in 1939, apparently used the apple tree bark remedy to cure many people of different ailments.

This book was reprinted in 1981 by Loma Linda, CA: Back To Eden Publishing.

Tree barks have been commonly used in healing by native American Indians, in Australia by aboriginal people, and in New Zealand by the Maori.  In European herbal medicine, tree barks such as white willow bark, slippery elm, and silver birch  have been used as a remedies  for certain ailments.

see my older post on silver birch leaves as medicine http://merrilynhope.com/birch-tree-leaves-for-kidney-stones/

However, not much is written about using Apple Tree Bark as a remedy.  The apple is well known for its therapeutic qualities, as is its cider vinegar, but no mention is made of using apple tree bark in any of the herbals I have so far read.

I have just encountered it in John Heinerman’s ‘Miracle Healing Herbs’, which a friend has just lent to me.  This book gives an account of how Jethro Kloss used this medicine, and how it was one of the most commonly prescribed medicines of his repertoire.

The success which Jethro Kloss had with Apple Tree Bark, and the endorsement of its use by John Heinerman, make it well worthwhile to record it here.

This is how it is used:

Bring one litre of water to a boil with two or three tablespoons of grated Apple Tree fruit bark added to it.

Once it is boiling, reduce the heat and simmer gently for twelve minutes.  Take off the heat after twelve minutes and let stand for a further 38 minutes.

Strain the liquid off into a jar and keep in the fridge.

It is taken one cupful at a time, either warm or cold, depending on what condition you are treating – I presume, one cup per day – John Heinerman does not say how frequently it is to be taken.

It is taken warm for:

abdominal cramps (warm or cold), dysentery, delayed menstruation, fever, gall bladder attacks, indigestion, kidney problems (warm or cold), toothache.

It is taken cool for:

abdominal cramps, boils, insect bites and stings, kidney problems, liver and spleen problems, nausea and vomitting, rabies.

Poultices

For skin problems such as boils, eczema, and insect bites, a poultice of the apple liquid can be used on the skin as well as the drink taken internally.

To make a poultice, soak a piece of clean white linen or cotton in the apple liquid.  Wring out and place over the area to be treated.

Cider Vinegar Socks And Onion Pack For Coughs Fever And Flu

Natural Remedies For Fever And Coughs

Apple Cider Vinegar Socks Applied to the Feet To Reduce Fever

Of course you should see your doctor or natural health practitioner in the case of a fever, especially with a child.  But here is a simple remedy you can try in conjunction with their advice.

The idea of  reducing a fever by soaking socks with cider vinegar is taken from International Masters Publishers ‘Nature’s Medicine Chest’ – sorry, no date on this publication here.

I have not personally tried this remedy, but it sounds like a good one to me.  ‘Nature’s Medicine Chest’ say that it works well for children who have a fever.

Note: I think that the onion water idea, which I have outlined below, could also be used as a treatment for fever by applying to the feet.

Mineral And Vitamin Content Of  Apples:  Apples are a wonderful food.  They are rich in phtytochemicals which help prevent cancer and other diseases.  They are high in potassium and pectin, both of which help heart function and keep the immune system strong.

Apples also contain reasonable amounts of magnesium, calcium and sodium, phosphorous, choline, and Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, C, E.

Apple cider vinegar contains all of the apple’s therapeutic value.  Cider vinegar is strongly anti-bacterial and has a cleansing and tonic effect on the whole body.  Drinking small amounts of diluted apple cider vinegar on a daily basis can help prevent candida overgrowth in the intestines.

Apple Cider Vinegar Sock Treatment:  The cleansing quality of the vinegar, plus the  inherent nutrients which are absorbed through the soles of the feet, aid the healing process and somehow help to bring a fever down.

It could be a very good remedy to use in conjunction with other therapies, such as homeopathy, for bringing down the fever which accompanies measles, mumps, or chicken pox.

With this method for bringing down a fever, all you do is to soak a pair of cotton socks in a cold solution made with equal quantities of apple cider vinegar and water.

My advice is to make sure you use pure cotton socks, and preferably white ones which will not contain dye.  Synthetic or nylon socks should not be used for this treatment, as the cider vinegar will draw out chemicals from the fabric.  Use white cotton socks.

Dip the socks into the cider vinegar solution, wring out, and put the wet socks onto the patient.  Reserve the apple cider vinegar solution so that you can repeat the process every half hour or as necessary.

Onion Pack On The Chest For Obstinate Coughs Or Pleurisy

In the past, I have used boiled onion water for the treatment for bronchitis and pleurisy.  All you need is a couple of litres of water and a large onion, which you chop and boil up until soft, skin and all.

This treatment. although a bit of an effort to perform, has been a life-saver for myself.  A large cloth or towel is soaked with the onion water, wrung out, and wrapped, while still hot, around the chest and back.  With this treatment, you leave the onion cloth on for several hours.  Wrap a plastic around so the bed-clothes don’t get damp, and then a layer or two of blanket to keep the heat and moisture in.

It is a good idea to drink plenty of hot lemon drinks, or simply hot water, while you sweat it out with the onion pack on.  Try to drink several pints over two or three hours.

This remedy has proved to be effective when nothing else seemed to work.  It broke the cough and reduced the fever after an hour or two.

I think that apple cider vinegar, diluted half and half with water, could be just as effective as the onion water remedy for putting on the chest when fever and cough are present.  But onions are cheap, and cider vinegar is not, unless you make it yourself.  So, seeing you need to have a quantity of liquid for the soaking of the towel, I would stick to the onion remedy for the treatment of choughs with the wet chest wrap.

Can Black Walnut Cure Cancer Or Mend Tooth Enamel?

Natural Remedies

Black Walnut is antiviral, antifungal, and antibiotic. It is one of the most powerful of the natural alternative remedies known to reverse cancer.

Dr Hulda Regehr Clark, Ph.D., N.D. uses Black Walnut in her herbal recipe which she believes has the capacity to cure all cancers. This herbal recipe, which consists of just three herbs, and its effectiveness in treating cancer. is outlined in her book entitled “The Cure For All Cancers”.

The three herbs in her combination are Black Walnut, Wormwood, and Cloves.

Of course, a restorative diet and a helpful lifestyle must accompany this herbal cure, if it is to work.  And certain chemicals must be avoided at all cost, to ensure recovery.

This is how the good doctor recommends you take the Black Walnut combination:

1) Procedure for using the Black Walnut Tincture –

First Day of treatment – One drop of black walnut is taken four times during the day

just for the first day. It can be taken at anytime, morning or afternoon.  Just divide the doses up so that they are spaced at least an hour apart. Dr Hulga says to take on an empty stomach, or half an hour before meal-times. Put it into any drink, except for coffee or tea or alcohol of course.

Second Day of treatment – The dose is increased – Two drops of black walnut is taken four times during the day.

Third Day of Treatment – The dose is increased – Three drops of black walnut is taken four times during the day.

Keep on increasing the dose by one drop per day, taken four times daily as above, until you have reached 20 drops of black walnut taken four times during the day.  You must do this gradually, increasing by one drop per day.  Do not be tempted to take a short cut and wham your body with a big dose of black walnut.  Don’t know what will happen – it won’t kill you, but it is not the way to go.

When you get up to 20 drops per day, you reduce the dose.  You keep taking 20 drops in one

go, one dose of 20 drops, but you use it only once a day.

From now on – One dose of 20 drops of black walnut tincture  from now on for three months.

2) Procedure for using the Wormwood combination capsules – keep on using the Black Walnut as outlined above.  As well, use the Wormwood as follows:

First Day of Treatment – Take just one capsule of Wormwood with a glass of water before the evening meal.

Second Day of Treatment – Double the dose to just two capsules before the evening meal.

Third Day of Treatment – Increase the dose to just one dose of three capsules before the evening meal.

Keep on increasing the dose by one capsule per day, but still taking just the one dose of the Wormwood treatment each day, before the evening meal.  Keep adding a capsule each day until you are up to 14 capsules taken in the one dose before tea.

Take the 14 capsules for just two more days, one dose of 14 capsules each day before tea.

Then REDUCE the dose to just 14 capsules taken twice a week.  Leave a few days before taking the second dose of 14, and only take the Wormwood twice a week at 14 capsules on each of those two days.

Black Walnut is also known as a restorative for tooth enamel, and as a treatment for Lupus.

The natural, organic iodine contained in the husks of the walnut make it especially effective in killing microbes which attack tooth enamel.

Lupus Cured With Detox Chelation Therapy

Natural Remedies For Lupus

Without radiation, without surgery, without chemotherapy:

Lupus can, and has, been cured through natural treatments, without chemotherapy drugs or surgery.  This will be the focus of this post.

Lupus disease can mysteriously appear in individuals whose families have no history of the disease.  The case discussed in this article proves how toxins in the blood can cause the disease to arise.

I have already written an extensive post on how Lupus can be treated naturally:  For ideas on natural treatments, which include natural ways of detoxification, take a look at this post for further reading http://merrilynhope.com/lupus/

Some homeopathic  practitioners have written that they have cured Lupus through a combination  of various homeopathic remedies and diet. Homeopathic medicine can help to rid the body of the harmful chemicals it is withholding:  These toxins can cause sicknesses of many kinds, including Lupus.

Some of the remedies used by these homeopathic writers are mentioned in my above article.

Heary Metal Poisoning Caused Lupus:

The account of the woman who recovered from Lupus, after she was treated for heavy metal poisoning, is one of the most interesting, because it proves the point that chemical poisoning can indeed cause Lupus.

Her account also proves that people can be cured of Lupus.

This patient had declined all conventional therapies to treat her Lupus, such as radiation, chemotherapy and surgery.  She was still seeking some alternative to these orthodox practices, when:

By accident, she happened to be tested for heavy metal poisoning when she went for standard blood tests for her Lupus condition.  The blood tests for Lupus do not usually include metal poisoning, so it was wonderfully fortuitous that the so-called error was made to check her blood for heavy metals.

When the tests came back, it was clear that she had extremely high levels of mercury and lead in her blood.  She was retested to make sure the results were correct.  Yes, they were correct.  She had dangerous levels of these heavy metals pumping around her veins.

So she sought out a doctor who would address this issue.  She was subsequently given chelation therapy, which is a method of detoxification to remove harmful chemicals and heavy metals from the blood.

After an extensive year-long course of chelation treatment to rid her body of the heavy metals, namely Plasmapheresis and Ozone therapy, she was found to be cured of Lupus disease.

You can read the account of her history on this link:

Cured Lupus Without Chemotherapy or Surgery

Note:  Oxygenating herbs are very useful for treating Lupus naturally.

Herbs For Treating Lupus:

Black Walnut, Juglans nigra, is noted in Louise Tenney’s book as being an herb for treating Lupus.  Black walnut is a great oxygenator of the blood, whilst possessing strong antiviral, antibacterial, antiparasitical properties.

The outer green husk of the Black Walnut is rich in organic iodine, which is a powerful antiseptic.

Taheebo, Pau d’Arco, Tabebuia avellanedae, is another great antiviral, antibiotic herb for reducing Lupus symptoms.  Louise Tenney says that it is used successfully in some South American hospitals for treating cancer.  It is rich in iron and acts as a tonic to boost the immune system.

Vitamin C in the form of calcium ascorbate or Ester C, has the ability to kill off Lupus.  You can take the tablets 1000mg per tablet.  Dose would need to be high – between 4000mg to 10,000mg per day, depending on bowel tolerance.

Intravenous Vitamin C in the correct dose for body weight would be the best way to treat the disease, in my opinion.  Intravenous Vitamin C is an effective treatment for many kinds of cancer.

You need to see your alternative health therapist or doctor to arrange for a treatment of intravenous Vitamin C for the treatment of Lupus.
