What is Serenity Now Herbal Incense?

To be quite frank, I do not know this product, and I haven’t seen it in our health stores a yet in New Zealand.  However, I am rather hoping that this incense might be the real thing, something which actually benefits your health, rather than a product which contains harmful ingredients.

Toxic Chemicals in Incense: The reason for writing this post is essentially to warn people that they MUST ensure that the incense they are burning in their houses does not have toxic chemicals in it. Some chemicals which are used in cheap incenses are extremely deleterious to the health.  Saltpetre and formaldehyde are two very pernicious chemicals which are often used in incesnse making:  even if they incense contains real herbal essences and oils which will benefit your health, the healthful benefits of these pure oils will be negated by the presence of harmful chemicals such as these.

I bring this matter to your attention, because I have just had a bad experience with using an incense which was labelled as Tea Tree Oil Incense. It was packaged so nicely, and looked like authentic Indian incense, which, incidentally is not necessarily made from pure ingredients which are beneficial to health. I thought I would try this incense, which, incidentally, was made in China.

Natural Health

Well, this experiment was one I could have done without.  I burned the incense in my room a little over a week ago.  At the same time, I hurt my knee, which I think was spirit telling me that something was amiss.  So I then used an embrocation, which somebody gave me, on the knee which was very sore. Using these two things more or less together meant that I could not identify the effects of one from the other.

Anyway, the knee got better, but  meanwhile I was feeling so incredibly nauseous, with pains in the gut, and a terrible feeling of listlessness.  My energy was completely sapped, I felt like vomitting all week.  This felt like death was approaching. If I had felt like this for too long, then I would have completely faded away, as I could not eat anything.

Now I realize that some incense ash remained on a tray beside the bed all the time I was sick.  This turns out to be part of the problem, as the toxins in the incense are concentrated in this ash.  This toxic ash has an unbelievably deleterious effect on your health, apart from the effect of the actual smoke which emanates from burning incense:  the ash, if it is left around, continues all the while to affect your health.

So- after castor oil days, lemon juice days, the works, I recovered. I noticed that I felt better when I was actually out of the room.

The proof of the cause happened last night.  I lighted another of these Chinese made Tea Tree Oil Incense sticks.  Within a short time, the feeling of vomitting being imminent returned, with blurred vision, pain in the gut, and a weakness in the limbs.  I put the incense tray, ash and all, and removed the packet of unburned incense sticks from my room.  The smell of the incense was still all about the room, of course, and I could not decontaminate all the clothing without a lot of effort. I kept the window open wide all night, and used a fan blower to distribute fresh air about the room, aiming it at my face.

This incense is VERY TOXIC. Formaldehyde is very harmful to the health.  It affects the nervous system, the immune system, and the brain.  Formaldehyde causes memory loss. It weakens the eyesight. There are so many ill effects to be had from burning incense which has formaldehyde and other poisons in it.

Check the ingredients on your incense before you buy it.  Chuck out any old incense that you are not so sure about, as burning toxic chemicals in the house could be potentially much worse for you and your family than smoking cigarettes.
